Походять з Бостона і зараз базуються в Амстердамі, Нідерланди. Jaya the Cat граюти оригінальний мікс reggae, punk rock та ska. Заснована через взаємну любов до dub’у і punk’y 60's і 70's трьома друзями (Geoff Lagadec - вокал/гітара, Dave Smith - гітара/вокал і Ben Murphy - бас), Jaya the Cat створює пісні, що поєднують в собі драйвові гімни, спокійні треки для танцю, відкритий політичний протест. У 2001 випускають дебютний альбом "Basement Style" (Gold Circle Records). У цьому ж році разом з колишнім барабанщиком Shadows Fall, David 'The Germ' Germain, починають гастролювати через Сполучені Штати і Європу, граючи в різних клубах і фестивалях, як наприклад в Lowlands в Holland, Pukkelpop в Belgium, Warped Tour в US. Їхня музика використовується в численних відео по скейту, серфу та сноуборду.

Літом 2003 виходить другий альбом "First Beer of a New Day" (4tune Records). Альбом дістає непогані відгуки, але групу залишають Smith та Murphy. Група деякий час перебуває в забутті, але незабаром Lagadec і Germain вирішують шукати нових учасників. Тимчасово приєднають для весняного Європейського турне музикантів Jaap Onverwagt (Green Lizard) і Alejandro Londono, вони займають на 3 місяціі кімнату в Амстердамі з планом перегруповування і вирішення подальшої долі групи. Тримісячник перетворився на три роки. У цей відрізок часу група продовжує розвиватися, грає сотні живих концертів для публіки, що завжди розширяється, як і інструменти на яких грають музиканти.

16-го листопада 2007 виходить їхній третій реліз "More Late Night Transmissions with Jaya The Cat" (I Scream records). Він включає 13 треків. Punk rock, reggae, ska змішані власним унікальним стилем.

Geoff Lagadec про новий альбом: “Я думаю, новий запис є набаго більш глибокими ніж останні два і на мою думку ми прогресували музично. Ми узяли багато чого з двох попередніх альбомів плюс Амстердам є добрим міжнародним містом, так що це справило на мене нові враження”.

В поточний склад включені Jordi 'Pockets' Nieuwenburg на guitar, Steven Brautigam на bass і Onverwagt на keyboards.

о. и это тут есть) забавная группка такая, но ближе все таки к регги. правда слышал только последний альбом.
 
залив на сервак перший альбом - там море драйву, позитиву, репкору, панку, реггі і всьо-всього самого ахуєнного...свого часу я його переслухав дуже велику кількість раз як і всі решта:pray:
 
знаю эт группу тож давно. есть хорошие вещи, и там у них всё позитивное :smile:

These alley-cats from Boston (U.S.) have a career that is as distinctive as is their musical style. They produce a sound that holds the mean between punk-rock legends such as Rancid and the Clash and reggae, in the past they have been described as being a cross between Bob Marley and Mötorhead's front-man Lemmy. They play a combination of ska with rocksteady guitars, a touch of metal and hip-hop with a resultant sound best described as 'punk reggae'. Lyrically Jaya focuses the consuming of beer and pot combined with outright critique on local politics. Jaya the Cat embodies the integrity, passion, and attitude that has always defined punk rock and reggae.

Jaya's career has run an unusual course since the band's formation in the mid 1990's in Massachusetts. They started out playing at keg-parties and local clubs for short money and beer, but moved out to San Francisco in 1997 to tune in with the big-time music business. Alas, San Francisco's exorbitant rents, Jaya's consistent lack of money, and the San Francisco public's apparent disinterest for ska inevitably caught up with them:
at length the Cats found themselves shacked up in a basement/rehearsal room that (to add insult to injury) caught fire. For Jaya the Cat the East-coast was altogether the wrong place at the wrong time. In light of these setbacks the band was put on hold indefinitely. The band members parted ways, joining other local bands with one regret: they had no decent recording of the Jaya the Cat tracks from
when the band had been alive and kicking.

In the spring op 1999 Geoff Lagadec and Dave Smith decided to put a change to that. They scraped up some cash, booked a weekend at the 'Slaughterhouse Studios', put together a rhythm section and ended up cutting 10 tracks under the guidance of producer Mark Allen Miller. Bass player Ben Murphy was plucked out of his 'Ford F250' van (where he was living at the time) and recorded the bass-lines for the demo. The reception of these results, from everyone who heard them in fact, was terrific, and 6 months later Geoff moved back to Boston to work things out and restart Jaya's engine. A short time later Jaya the Cat hooked up with 'Gold Circle Records' (who signed the band without ever having seen them) and recorded their debut album Basement Style.

With Basement Style, consequently released through 'Gold Circle Records', the Cats went on to tour successfully through the
United States. The band won the 'Pioneer Valley Advocate's' competition in Northamptom [MA] twice as best ska/reggae band and were nominated several times at the Boston Music Awards for the category Best Ska Band. The famed Mighty Mighty Bosstones annual 'Hometown Throwdown' saw Jaya on the bill in 2000, and throughout New England the band could be seen performing at the 'cool' and 'very punk-rock' d.i.y. all-age punk rock shows where up-and-coming talent is given a shot at the limelight. The single 'Are You With Me' was played in K-Rock Radio's 'the Buzz' and Jaya was booked to join the East-coast leg of the renowned 'Vans Warped Tour' between February and September 2001. Noteworthy also are Jaya's various contributions to the soundtracks of the 'Matchstick Productions' X-treme snowboard/mountainbike videos and the various singles that appeared on e.g. the 'Bim Skala Bim' and 'Toasters' compilation albums.

The summer of 2002 saw the Cats in Europe hitting festivals like 'Pukkelpop' and 'Lowlands'. At 'Lowlands' in particular, the energetic band pulled a full tent and oodles of visitors were left with a lasting impression of the show. 2002 was also the year Jaya adapted ex-Shadows Fall drummer David Germain, better known as The Germ. It was the first time Jaya had a steady drummer in the band. Moving right along Jaya toured with the Dutch all-girl punk-rock group the Riplets in the winter.

After the demise of 'Gold Circle Records;, and in light of the recently booked successes in Europe, Jaya the Cat signed to '4Tune Records' in Amsterdam and took to the studio to record the second full-length album.

This new album was recorded in the same 'Slaughterhouse Studios' where the debut album saw the light of day, and Mark Allen Miller was called upon for a second time to handle the production of the disc: First Beer of a New Day. Once again Jaya the Cat has produced an album brimming with spirited, non-nonsense songs, and once again featuring Jaya's favourite subjects, politics and beer.

Recently Ben Murphy and Dave Smith left the band leaving Geoff and The Germ behind and Jaya the Cat has been playing their shows with guest musicians
such as Jan Jaap Onverwagt and Brian Tjon Ajong, bassplayer and guitarist for the dutch rockband Green Lizard and Alejandro Londoño Montoya, Agrésion's guitarist.

апаю тему.
групу зовсім недавно для себе відкрив.
закинув у преєр спочатку перші три альбоми, більше всього сподобався 2001 року, без перестанку слухав тижня два, дуже крутий альбом, качає нереально.

Що можете виділити ви?
Які групи можете порівняти з цими монстрами?

p/s: а те шо тіпи походять з Бостону відучувається, навіть дуже))
