MARK LANEGAN AND DUKE GARWOOD TO RELEASE SINGLE ‘COLD MOLLY’ ON RECORD STORE DAY IN UK

Mark Lanegan and Duke Garwood are set to release the first single, ‘Cold Molly,’ from their upcoming collaboration album Black Pudding on April 20, or Record Store Day. The new single will be released as 10″ vinyl pressings and the release will be limited to 300 copies. The single will also feature two remixes, one from Lanegan collaborators Soulsavers and the other from Roman Remains. The Roman Remains remix of ‘Cold Molly’ can currently be heard on Paste Magazine:

http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/...ere-mark-lanegan-duke-garwood---cold-mol.html

The single will be distributed through British record label Heavenly Recordings. Although the website for the UK’s Record Store Day lists the release, the website for the USA’s Record Store Day does not. It is unclear whether or not the single will be released in North America or the rest of Europe, but it might be unlikely due to the limited number of copies and the release from a British record label. For the single to be sold in the United States, American label Ipecac Recordings would most likely lead the distribution, but it is unknown at this time whether or not they are involved.

Nevertheless, ‘Cold Molly’ is set for release in the UK on April 20, while Black Pudding, the collaboration album from Mark Lanegan and Duke Garwood, is set for release on May 14.

moby on collaborating with mark lanegan:
"i've been a fan of mark's from his early sst records days, and i've always wanted to work with him. he has one of the best and most distinctive voices of the last 25 years. now that we live near each other it ended up being really easy working on a song together."

moby on producing of the lonely night:
“…and in producing the song, spike stent and i incorporated some very unusual production techniques... we ran all of the instruments through a distortion pedal into a guitar amp. so really there are only 3 tracks: left channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, right channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, and mark's vocals. the end result is intentionally very broken and atmospheric."

Mark Lanegan - on working with Duke Garwood & QotSA, his new 'crooner' album & more

In a new interview with Q Magazine, Mark Lanegan discussed his collaborations and what he’s been recently working on. Lanegan talked about the positive experience he had working with Duke Garwood on their recent collaboration album ‘Black Pudding.’ While discussing his collaborations with various artists such as Josh Homme and Greg Dulli, he said that “the music is secondary to our friendship.” Lanegan also revealed that he will be releasing a new album in the fall of this year.

On the topic of his new record, Lanegan said:

“I wanted to make a record with a crooner-ish type of song, for want of a better term. You know, orchestrated, stuff like Andy Williams or Perry Como would do. I ended-up recording a record like that in February, it’s going to be out in the fall. That was something I wanted to do for years and years.”

Lanegan also added: “I do a John Cale song, a Nick Cave song but in that style. It’s called Imitations.”

Finally, Lanegan said that he’s been writing songs every day for the next Mark Lanegan Band album. The ‘crooner’ album and the new Mark Lanegan Band album are “all [he has] on the docket” right now. Lanegan recently rumored a two-disc anthology set and a new Gutter Twins album in the future, but the interview made no mention of these projects.

MARK LANEGAN REVEALS COVERS ALBUM ‘IMITATIONS’ RELEASE DATE, TRACKLIST, AND RELEASES NEW SONG

Mark Lanegan announced that he will be releasing his new covers album ‘Imitations’ on September 17, 2013. Lanegan discussed the emotional significance of the album in a statement:

“When I was a kid in the late sixties and early seventies, my parents and their friends would play the records of Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como, music with string arrangements and men singing songs that sounded sad whether they were or not. At home my folks were also listening to country music, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones and Vern Gosdin were some of our favorites. For a long time I’ve wanted to make a record that gave me the same feeling those old records did, using some of the same tunes I loved as a kid and some that I’ve loved as I have gotten older. This record is it. Imitations.”

========================

Mark Lanegan has released the first song from ‘Imitations,’ a cover of John Cale’s “I’m Not The Loving Kind.” This sounds different from what Lanegan fans might be used to, but Lanegan’s classic voice pervades throughout and his ambition in trying something new should be celebrated.

The tracklist for ‘Imitations’ was also revealed by Lanegan. The album will feature 9 covers and 3 originals:

01. “Flatlands” (Chelsea Wolfe)
02. “She’s Gone” (Hall & Oates)
03. “Deepest Shade”
04. “You Only Live Twice” (Nancy Sinatra)
05. “Pretty Colors” (Frank Sinatra)
06. “Brompton Oratory” (Nick Cave)
07. “Solitaire”

As one of America’s great modern day vocalists and songwriters, Mark Lanegan has much in common with the timeless work of such legends as Fred Neil, Tim Hardin and Karen Dalton. The former frontman of Screaming Trees, collaborator with Kurt Cobain and Queens Of The Stone Age, half of a modern day Nancy & Lee with Isobel Campbell and, most commonly, solo artist, Lanegan is a man whose career has been defined by an unwillingness to sit still.

Light In The Attic are set to shine a spotlight on this great American performer and songwriter with the release of Has God Seen My Shadow? An Anthology 1989-2011. Collecting Lanegan’s solo material for Sub Pop, Beggars and more plus 12 unreleased tracks, this is the archive treatment Mark has long deserved. It is released in two sumptuous formats: a Double-CD edition with a gatefold, tip-on jacket and a 44-page booklet comprising hand-written lyrics and rare archive photos by Charles Peterson and Steve Gullick, and a Triple-LP box set, each LP in single pocket jackets within a heavy, tip-on slip case, with a 20-page book featuring the same attention to detail and extras as the CD release.

The 32 tracks shine a light on Mark’s rare talent, and span the singer’s entire career, from 1990’s debut album The Winding Sheet to a treasure trove of recent unreleased gems and feature such guests as PJ Harvey, Josh Homme and J Mascis. His is a sound of grizzled vocals and dark melody, its lyrics chiseled out of late night thoughts and dark humor.
